How the Beacon Budget referral program works

Earn $10 when a friend you refer pays for an annual Beacon Budget plan, plus when the reward becomes available and how to get paid.

Share your referral code. When a friend uses it and pays for an annual Beacon Budget plan, you earn $10 and they get $10 off their first year. Monthly plans do not qualify, so no reward and no discount there.

The full referral terms are here. Where this guide and the terms disagree, the terms apply.

Where to find your code

Open the Invite Friends screen from your home screen or your Profile. From there you can share or copy your referral link and send it to a friend. Your payout setup lives on that same screen once you have a reward to collect.

How you earn $10

You earn $10 for each friend who uses your code and then pays for an annual plan. The reward is the same for every referral, regardless of which annual plan your friend chooses.

A few things decide whether a referral counts.

  • Only annual plans earn the reward. A monthly plan earns nothing and gives your friend no discount.
  • The subscription must be paid. A trial on its own earns nothing. The reward is earned when the trial converts to a paid annual plan, or when your friend buys one outright.
  • One reward per friend. When they renew next year, that renewal earns nothing more.

Your friend gets $10 off the first year of an annual plan, applied by the App Store or Google Play at checkout. The discount is never cash.

Subscribing on the web does not include the discount, so your friend should buy on iPhone or Android.

Who can use a code

Your friend can use a code only if they have not had a paid Beacon Budget subscription in the last 180 days. Each account can be referred once, even if it later becomes eligible again.

You cannot use your own code. To earn and be paid, you need to be 18 or older and live in the United States.

When the reward becomes available

Your reward is pending for 75 days after your friend’s first annual payment, then it becomes available. The hold gives refunds time to surface before any money is paid.

If your friend’s purchase is refunded before you are paid, the reward is cancelled. That is what the hold is for.

For example, say a friend converts to an annual plan on March 1. Your $10 sits as pending, and around May 15 it becomes available to pay out. If they had asked for a refund during those 75 days, the reward would have been cancelled instead.

How to get paid

Payouts go through Stripe, our payout provider. You set up a payout account with Stripe, and they confirm who you are before any money moves.

  1. Open the Invite Friends screen in Beacon, from your home screen or your Profile, and start your payout setup.
  2. Stripe verifies your identity and asks for the bank account to pay into.
  3. Leave the prefilled fields alone. Some details on Stripe’s screens are filled in by Beacon, including our website and a description of the payment. Changing them is the single most common way to get stuck, so do not edit them.
  4. Finish the Stripe steps, then request a payout once you are eligible.

Beacon never sees your Social Security number or your bank details. Stripe collects those directly to verify you and to send the money.

You can request a payout once your available balance is at least $10, and payouts are made in multiples of $10. A payout over $200 may need extra verification before it is sent.

A few more things to know

Taxes. Rewards may count as taxable income. Beacon may ask for tax information before paying you, and may report rewards where the law requires.

Deleting an account. If you delete your Beacon account, any pending and available rewards are forfeited. If your friend deletes theirs before you are paid, that reward is cancelled.

Review and abuse. Some referrals are reviewed by a person before the reward clears. Abuse, including referring yourself or joining referral rings, voids rewards and can close the accounts involved.
